I doubt you think about sinkholes as often as I do, but when I think about sinkholes I don't think Brooklyn. Now this is not your typical sinkhole, typically sinkholes occur in an area with limestone bedrock, such as most of Florida. But, I'm boring you so of you wanted to know more about sinkholes look it up, use wikipedia or something. So it looks like this was caused by a burst water main, awesome.
